Student Sustainability Innovation Fund

The Keene State College Office of Sustainability announced the new KSC Student Sustainability Innovation Fund. It was created to fund projects that support student-centered programs of the Office of Sustainability or other innovations that will help KSC achieve its sustainability goals. Rising Juniors and Seniors were eligible to apply for the financial award. The following criteria were put in place for project submissions:

  • Focus on Keene State College’s campus or the neighboring community as a test bed for envisioning, testing, and implementing innovative solutions to environmental sustainability and climate change challenges

  • Support attainment of KSC’s Sustainability Goals and address how it complements the KSC Sustainability College-Wide Learning Outcome

  • Address the Office of Sustainability’s vision and mission of supporting KSC in becoming a leader in educating and demonstrating visionary sustainability

  • Be new and innovative or provide innovative new approaches to existing projects

The Student Sustainability Innovation Fund was created through proceeds and donations received from annual Move-Out Sales and individual contributions. The Office of Sustainability thanks everyone who contributed seed money for this opportunity for student innovation in sustainability and climate change.

The first sustainability innovation fund was awarded in the spring semester of 2020 to Jason Gringas, a rising junior and dual major in Architecture and Construction Management with a minor in Sustainability.  Jason submitted a project proposal to create on campus recycling system that would include a plastic shredder, extruder, sheet press, and injection machine. This project will allow Keene State College to process their own recycling on-campus, a great example of full-circle sustainability!
